ANNA PHILLIPS

Co-Founder, Director of Scholar Support

Anna is one of the co-founders and a member of the leadership team of the B2R Scholars Program. She moved to Rwanda in 2009 in response to President Kagame’s direct call for a program which would “burst the bottlenecks” preventing Rwanda’s best students from earning scholarships for studies abroad. After teaching English and college test preparation at Sonrise High School in Musanze, Anna moved to Kigali in 2011. There, she successfully recruited the support of Kaplan, the world’s leading test prep provider, and launched the first gap-year class of B2R Scholars.

Before moving to Rwanda, Anna worked with children receiving cochlear implants at Arkansas Children’s Hospital as a Speech Pathologist. She earned her B.S. at the University of Arkansas and M.S. at the University of South Carolina. Since arriving in Rwanda, Anna has also established a speech pathology clinic at King Faisal Hospital in Kigali and coordinated the fitting of 4,000 custom hearing aids with the Starkey Hearing Foundation. After four years in Rwanda, Anna now supports the program she co-founded as B2R’s Director of Development in the U.S.
