Deirdre Hand, Lead Teacher

Deirdre is the Lead teacher at Bridge2Rwanda, where she equips Scholars with English expression and critical thinking skills to take on the rigorously interactive academic environments they will face. She works with Scholars in class and individually to prepare them for the TOEFL exam and build their confidence as learners.

Deirdre has her Masters in Education Curriculum and Instruction in TESOL from Virginia Tech. She has taught English in the Czech Republic, Spain, England, and was an English Language Fellow through the US State Department in Indonesia. She has taught adult immigrant and refugee learners in the United States and prior to joining B2R was an instructor at Virginia Tech’s Language and Culture Institute. Se did a summer internship at Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya in 2016, and decided to return to East Africa to join B2R in July 2017.
