Cheryl is the Student Support Coordinator for the Class 4 Bridge2Rwanda Scholars. She provides support to the scholars during their transition to the U.S., and throughout their college years. Cheryl communicates regularly with each student and offers assistance and counsel for any academic, social, personal, cultural or financial issues that may arise. She will also stay in touch with host families, providing support and encouragement as needed.
Cheryl earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Dayton, and an M.A. in Social Work from the University of Chicago. She is a licensed clinical social worker with an extensive background in gifted education, and expertise in the social and emotional needs of gifted students. Previously, Cheryl counseled students at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, a residential high school for highly talented students. Most recently, she served as Director of Student Services at the Avery Coonley School, a small independent school for gifted elementary students. Cheryl and her husband, John, live in the Chicago area and have three children, and five grandchildren.
