At the request of the Muhabura University Board of Trustees at the end of 2009, Bridge2Rwanda concluded Phase One of our efforts to help establish the University. Now that Muhabura’s independent Board of Trustees has been assembled and convened, it is an appropriate time for them to review the work done to date and assume responsibility for the university’s future development. We appreciate Bishop John giving us the opportunity to work on Muhabura. Our work with him on this project has been consistent with our mission to come alongside Rwanda’s leaders and help them accomplish their vision for their country.
During 2008 and 2009, Glen Woodruff and the Bridge2Rwanda team devoted a significant amount of time, energy and resources to the Muhabura project. We learned a lot about the condition and challenges of higher education in Rwanda, particularly in the critical areas of business and engineering. It is out of this experience that we decided to launch the Bridge2Rwanda Center for Enterprise Solutions to Poverty.
The 25-acre site for the University in Musanze was donated by the Government of Rwanda and will ultimately be home to 2,000 students. Muhabura will be a private, accredited Rwandan university governed by an independent Board of Trustees.
