Rwanda Experience

Rwanda Presidential Scholars Program (RPS) – RPS enables Rwanda’s best math and science students to receive four-year scholarships to do their undergraduate studies at U.S. colleges and universities. In 2007, Bridge2Rwanda board members, David Knight, Tim Cloyd, Dabbs Cavin and Hendrix College began building a consortium of U.S. schools, with support from the Clinton Foundation, to expand the number of RPS scholarships. Today, the consortium has 111 students in 17 schools. RPS stipulates that students will return to Rwanda after they complete their education.

Sonrise School (Sonrise) –Bishop John Rucyahana founded Sonrise in 2001 to be “light on a hill”. His vision was to create a boarding school that would set the standard for academic excellence and servant leadership. To demonstrate that every child is redeemable, approximately half the students are orphans. Today, Sonrise has over 1200 students in twelve grades (primary 1-6 and secondary 1-6) and is considered one of Rwanda’s top performing primary and secondary schools. Bridge2Rwanda board members Dale and Judi Dawson, Dabbs Cavin and Scott Ford helped raise funds to build Sonrise High School.
