Tom explains “Plug and Play” in Rwanda
Tom Allen spent the last 30 years practicing law, living on the beach in Los Angeles and raising three passionate and adventurous sons (Tommy, Nathan & Wesley). When the youngest left for college, Tom decided to close his law practice and make himself available to follow God’s call — to move beyond success to significance. Fearlessly going beyond his comfort zone, Tom moved to Rwanda in early 2008 to become Bridge2Rwanda’s Country Director and “chief connections officer”. When asked what he’s learned, Tom replies:
“I now believe that life comfortably ensconced in a safe cocoon misses out on too much of what might be learned, experienced, and shared with others in developing countries, many of whom are crying out in desperate need, and some of whom beam with smiles and contentment such as I have seldom seen. I want to know them and their lives”.
Bishop John has declared that Tom and his son, Nathan (who taught English for a term at Sonrise School) have set the standard for Bridge2Rwanda’s “borrowed talent”. They bring to their work three essential elements – they are “smart” (valuable skills and experience to share), “committed” (serious and hard working) and “humble” (they expect to learn from and be transformed by Rwandans).
Tom writes a delightful blog about his life in Rwanda — tomallen3.blogspot.com. Enjoy it with the knowledge that God is at work in Rwanda and that the life that is transformed may be your own
